Cash boost Bio research
A Kent university department which puts tackling cancer and infectious diseases at the top of its research agenda has been given £1.65m to further its work.
The University of Kent said it put its bio-sciences "at the cutting edge".
The department concentrates on the four major areas of modern biology - cancer research, cell biology, infectious diseases and protein science.
Six funding applications were submitted by the Department of Biosciences and four were successful, the university said.
Professor Peter Jeffries, head of the department, said: "These awards clearly demonstrate that the department is at the cutting edge of biological research.
"Nationally we are ahead of the game, as only 25% of applications are usually funded."
